Pumpkin Pies Surprise

No one brought the turkey

or the sausages or hams.

No one brought the rice and beans

or pickled beets or yams.

No one came with buttered bread.

Instead—what a surprise!—

everyone, yes, EVERYONE

arrived with pumpkin pies!

Pumpkin pies! Pumpkin pies!

What a happy feeling!

Filling up the dining room

and reaching to the ceiling.

Find a fork, and grab a plate,

and have another slice.

For dinner this Thanksgiving,

it’s a pumpkin paradise!
