1. Numbers are used for counting and measuring things. But do you know the history of numbers? It’s/Its a fascinating story!

2. The first numbers were likely just lines. It’s/Its a system still used today. One line counts one thing. This is how you count five things. 

3. Ancient Egyptians used pictures to show numbers. These pictures are called hieroglyphics. Look at the number 10,000. It’s/Its hieroglyph is a bent finger!

4. Later, the ancient Romans created a new system called Roman numerals. It’s/Its numbers were letters! For instance, the number 5 was written as the letter V. 

5. The number 13 is considered unlucky in many places. It’s/Its even skipped as a floor number in some buildings! In China, it’s/its the number 4 that’s considered unlucky. That’s because it’s/its name in Chinese sounds like the Chinese word for “death.”

6. According to a study, 7 is the most popular number in the world. It’s/Its considered lucky—or even magical—by some people.
